Original hand signed currency issued by the State of North Carolina in 1862. The “Fifty Cents” note is also hand inscribed with the serial number “2104”. Fractional currency was issued because of the coin shortage during the Civil War. The note was issued out of Raleigh, North Carolina and was printed by “J.T. Paterson & Co. Augusta, Ga.”. As with a lot of the notes of the period it has the plain back. The lead bullets were recovered from the Bentonville Battlefield in authentic North Carolina. They are representative of ammunition used by both sides during the war. The white patina is due to oxidation in the ground.
The battle scene, “Battle of Roanoke Island”, was reprinted from a hand colored steel engraving originally done in the 1860's.
The hand made solid Walnut frame is 12” x 16” (glass) in size. The matting is light brown. All of the frame and display work was done in our cabinet shop here in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original Civil War issue as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph of the item purchased.
Please see our "About" page for more information on the framing and artifacts.
