This is a Northwest Coast Indigenous limited edition silkscreen print entitled "Hummingbird and Moon" by Coast Salish artist Joe Wilson. It depicts the hummingbird hovering in mid air alongside an owl-faced moon. To many Northwest Coast Indigenous nations, the hummingbird is a messenger of joy. They are good omens and symbolize intelligence, beauty, devotion, and love. Owl is generally a symbol of perception and wisdom, while the moon is seen as a guardian figure. This print has a counterpart in Joe Wilson's "Hummingbird and Sun". It measures 22" x 21", and is from a run of 90 produced in 2020.

Joe Wilson is part of the Cowichan Band, based on Vancouver Island. He he has been carving and painting since the age of seventeen. Although mainly self-taught, Joe worked under Hesquiaht/Nuu-chah-nulth artist Tim Paul, and the late authentic Coast Salish master carver Simon Charlie. Joe is deeply involved in the winter ceremonies of his people, and his artwork is defined by his attention to detail and his use of unconventional colours. Joe is a wood carver, but he has also produced numerous limited edition prints.
