Antique Crucifix w Chalkware Jesus Figure, Wood Cross and INRI authentic Plaque, Catholic Icon, 28 Inches

This large and beautiful antique crucifix features a hand painted chalkware Jesus and INRI plaque mounted on a painted wood cross. The cross measures a substantial 28 x 14 inches. Striking Catholic iconography, the crucifix is likely of US manufacturing and dates to the 1930s or 1940s.

The crucifix is structurally sound and it hangs very well from top hook. The chalkware figurine has no cracks. It does have surface wear, some of which has been lightly touched up with acrylic paint to cover over exposed white chalk, But, care has been taken to otherwise maintain the antique patina (no attempt was made to refurbish the entire figurine). The last listing image shows in detail the largest touched-up chalkware chip located on Jesus's leg. The wood cross has surface paint loss.

Overall, the item is in very good antique condition. The chalkware figurine is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and the color remains strong. Reverse painted glass is in very good condition and glass is intact. The Last Super print on cabinet door is color faded and paper lining in cabinet has damage. The cabinet door opens well and fits snuggly. Last Rites cabinet item set is incomplete. The oak frame is solid and in excellent condition but the papered backing has deteriorated. Although it is not essential, it is recommended that the new owner remove the paper backing and open and dust the box interior--the chalkware figurine has collected dust. The box has not been opened.
