*What is Fordite?
Fordite is a one of its kind, car enamel with an interesting history. It began as a byproduct of the Paint-bays in large automobile factories. As cars were spray-painted, the interior of the bays received repeated coats of paint and were baked numerous times. Gradually the paint built up over time in numerous colors. Over extended amounts of time the paint would build to a thick blob and would need to be removed. Some employees saw beauty in the “junk” they were removing and decided to keep some. Thus, Fordite was born. It is also referred to as Detroit Agate or Motor-City Agate, due to its beautiful patterns, similar to those of the Lake Superior Agate. Unfortunately, times have changed and the auto industry along with it. Gone are the days when cars were spray-painted in large bays, now pieces are produced in the color wanted or paint is applied through an electromagnetic process that bonds it to the car, making Fordite, history.

A note about Ring Sizing
Many people have asked us if we can size a ring they are interested in buying. We thought we should address the subject. We're sorry, but we don't size rings. There are a few reasons why this is the case. We would like to touch on the three that we find the most relevant. First, when scouring antique shops and flea markets in search of pieces to repair or alter, we attempt to find rings that are one-of-a-kind, vintage or intricate. To size them would be a nightmare. Next, sizing rings requires certain equipment that we don't have, since we don't size rings. Lastly, although many jewelry store chains will gladly size a ring for a fee, we are hesitant to even suggest the sizing of any of the rings which bear Fordite. Our concern is that the Fordite may melt under the intense heat of authentic the torch used to solder the metal. Please understand that we cannot accept returns on damaged items. We try to offer rings in a variety of sizes, if you don't see something you like in your size, please, do not hesitate to contact us and we will look for something in just the right size!
Our Story:
A husband once tried to buy his wife a Lake Superior Agate ring. He checked online often, but he never found the ring he desired. He decided that his only option was to buy himself a rock saw, a grinder, a polisher and the other necessary materials, and make her one himself! So, that is exactly what he did! It turned out looking awesome! She Loved It! So, then he bought a setting and made himself one of equal beauty. Then, he made one for each of his daughters. He was having so much fun, he decided to make a few more and offer them to the public.
He was enjoying his new hobby a lot. So, he started dabbling a bit more, experimenting with various other gems and minerals... Now there's NO STOPPING HIM!!!
Please Note: Many of my items are listed as vintage. Vintage items often have vintage smells! Some may remind you of your grandma's “All-Purpose, Old-People Powder”. A good cleaning should take care of it! This also means that these items have been used in the past and may show some sign of normal wear.
