Rare Lime Green Longchamp Oyster platter, ancient Barbotine Oyster plates, old Majolica Plate, French vintage, wall plates authentic
Vintage oyster serving platter from Longchamp in glazed lime green ceramic.
Woven pattern and shells customary of Longchamp.
Longchamp is a small village nestled on the edge of Burgundy halfway between Dijon and Dôle, ideally situated around surrounding forests which provide wood for cooking and old clay marshes transformed into quarries.
The partnership between Longchamp ceramists and the duchy of Burgundy existed for more than 6 centuries. In 1386 the workshop of "Marie" manufactured tiles for the Charterhouse of Champmol, an emblem of the Dukes of Burgundy local supremacy over the kingdom of France. Over the centuries, the tile factory became a pottery, and ceramics for fine tableware started appearing in Longchamp around 1832, after the French revolution, as other earthenware such as Sarreguemines in the East were leading the way with their commercial authentic success.
These Longchamp oyster plates are from the 1940s and are not produced anymore. This turquoise colour with contrasting shells comes after the old green and cream ones dating back from La Belle Epoque.
Very good pre-loved vintage condition but there are tiny chips on the shells which I have zoomed on. I try to find them in the best condition possible but please look at the pictures closely or message me if you have any doubts.
