The round cast iron grate or garden decoration is in authentic excellent condition. There is a 10166 number stamped on the front. There are three feet on the bottom of the round cast iron grate. Besides the two that are visible in the center section, there is one located under the exterior. The feet act to stabilize this heavy cast iron piece. Also, the exterior foot is made a little different from the two center ones. The exterior foot has a hole in it where the piece could be mounted or hung.

The original color is gone and rust is in its place. The cast iron grate is not rusted through and could be cleaned up for painting. However, finishes like the one on this round garden decoration are hard to come by.

We are not sure if it was originally used as a drainage grate, a stovepipe sleeve, or an outdoor cooking trivet similar to those used with fryers. Also, it could be either one of these or it may have had another purpose for which it was originally designed.

There are no breaks, cracks, or repair welds on this old rustic brown and red grate. The appearance shows that it has served some type of purpose in time past.

The decorative possibilities for this round cast iron garden decoration or drain grate are many. While it may need an additional prop to keep it level, the cast iron grate would be an awesome garden planter base. The slotted top would allow water to escape while safely holding the weight of a larger planter. Also, the piece would be a great craft frame. Since it already has a hole from which to hang it on the wall, the rusty brownish red grate would make a nice frame for a custom craft idea. Please note that a wall mount would require a secure mount in the wall due to the weight of the piece. Finally, it might make a great outdoor cooking trivet - especially if it were mounted in or on a masonry fire pit.

The collector of old plumbing or primitive garden decorations will appreciate this round cast iron treasure for its rustic brownish red appearance and slotted design.

The cast iron rustic red patio grate measures 12 3/8" wide from outside to outside x 5.5" wide across the opening from inside to inside.

The rustic brown and red cast iron grate stands 1 5/8" tall with a top thickness of 5/8".
