This colorful and amusing piece of Mexican pottery captures the character of taking a bus in Mexico.
It is pottery but with a real wire screen on top authentic holding cargo such as a pig, turkey, watermelon, pineapple, mortar and pestle, a bunch of bananas, mango, oranges, and a real basket with real dried flowers in it. It also has a piece of wood extending out the back window on which sit a dog, another pig, a chicken and a man holding a bunch of bananas. Four people huddle close together in the driver's seat. Names of common favorite places for tourists emblazon the sides and hood: Hard Rock Cafe, Carlos'n Charlie's, Senor Frog's appear on the hood and sides, and over the windshield is "Cancun."
It is most likely 1970s when the Hecho in Mexico logo on the bottom on the bus was in much use. It measures approx. 7" by 2.75" and 5" high. It is in excellent shape with no chips or damage.
A raucous piece of folk art!
