authentic Attractive vintage Inuit carving of walrus composed in grey green soapstone, dated '77.

These big lumbering beasts awkward (and ferocious) on land, were graceful but extremely dangerous in the Arctic waters. Walruses were an incredible challenge to Inuit hunters who were armed only with a harpoon and knife, and often hunted from kayaks.

Signed in Inuktitut syllabics Lu- ka si (Lucassie) and Ku-ma- lu (possibly, Kumaluk, Kumaraluk or Qumaluk)
