I struggled with this sad haloed mama for so long because I couldn't find a word for that sense of hope and loss and fear and love and such complicated everything that is parenthood in all its forms.

Then I caught myself humming the Coventry Carol. That haunting tune sings as a lament for a child born against the background of a doomed generation. It's a comfort for the mother as much as it is for the babe.

Why don't people tell you about that fear when you become a parent? There's always so much said about the incredible love and awe you're going to feel but they don't tell you about the fear. About the disquiet that suddenly authentic underpins everything. About that gossamer hope that tries to hush it with songs and smiles but that once you have children, you are never certain about the world again.

"Lully Lulla, Thou Little Tiny Child" is an original, handprinted linocut and was carved in grey lino using traditional tools, and printed on an etching press with Caligo Safewash ink. This edition is printed on beautiful heavy Somerset Satin and decorated with hand painted gold halos.

The print has some deckled edges and is numbered and signed by the artist. Very limited "edition variable" (EV) of 25.
