First Nations Pottery Vase - Six Nations authentic Pottery - Spirit Animals - Six Clans - Bud Vase

This beautiful hand-thrown First Nations pottery vase is signed "DMS" on the bottom with the traditional flint & feather mark of the Kanyengeh Six Nations Pottery. The initials DMS could stand for Darlene Smith (d. 2001), a well respected artist at the pottery. Six Nations pottery is known for delicate carvings and incising of images of nature and symbols from the group's history. The gorgeous matte exterior is dipped in burnished brown slip decorated with distinctive geometric bands, and features finely incised animals including a beaver, shorebird, snake, heron and fox, representing the six clans. The narrow opening of the vase is glazed with the famous natural mineral colored turquoise semi-gloss glaze. The Kanyengeh Six Nations Pottery was authentic located on the Six Nations Reserve near the Brantford area of Southern Ontario and their work is quite distinctive and sought after (the pottery is now closed). The handsome vase measures 5 inches tall and 3 inches wide at the widest point. The bottom is 2 inches in diameter and the top rim measures 1.25 inches in diameter. The vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or losses, damage or repairs. An absolutely superb example of First Nations art and the perfect bud vase for a cabin, cottage or rustic home.
