Product code: Vintage Limogen porcelain from FRANCE for L. authentic B. King & Co of Detroit big serving platter

authentic This is a Limogen FRANCE for L. B. King & Co of Detroit porcelain serving platter. As you can see it is in great conditions for an antique. Be aware that with time and use, the golden circle around the plate, faded a little.

It is not an easy task to figure out when a Limogen piece is authentic.
The existence of a huge amount of marks is the reason for this difficulty. Therefore one needs to research about its history to make sense of all these different marks :
Actually, Limoge is a city in France which was close to areas were a good quality clay could be found.
In the late XVIII century Limoges hard paste porcelain were produced by small fabrics all around the city; therefore the name Lomoges begin to be used by all the porcelain produced in Limogen. So the name Limogen does not refer to a particular fabric.
Around 1830 Limogen substituted Paris as the main center of private porcelain factories; however the State owned Sevres porcelain , close to Paris, remained the most famous porcelain until today

And how about the L. B. King Company ? What it has to do with Limogen if this company was in Detroit , Michigan USA?
Let's go back to 1851's Detroit where L.B. King, the son of a crockery and glass fabric was born. In 1874 L.B. King earned a BS from the University of Michigan, he joined his father fabric and in 1907 he became the Company's President and specialized as a porcelain wholesaler. That's why I could find his company mark on my lovely Limogen's plate.
If you are from Michigan you would love to know that:
"The L. B. King and Company Building is a six-story commercial building with a steel frame with white terra cotta cladding on the facade. The facade of the lower two stories are virtually all glass; the upper four stories are divided into four vertical sections, each with Chicago-style windows. Atop the building is an elaborate cornice which was added in . The building exemplifies the architecture that was extensively used in the early twentieth century.
Both L. B. King and Company and Annis Furs were prominent commercial firms in the history of Detroit. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and the state of Michigan historic register in 1987" Wilkipidia
