The VW Camper Van has been loved by surfers, hippies and campers all over the world ever since it was made in November 1949 and production only stopped December 2013 with a special edition. There were many variations and used by people for many different functions.
Surprisingly, they were made in Brazil since 1957. It was one of the longest produced models in automotive history.
The story of this most famous bus in the world is interesting. It was a Dutch entrepreneur who conceived the idea. Ben Pon had to travel to Germany for a meeting and authentic whilst waiting, he made some sketches in which he designed a large cargo space in a small area. This design was based on the then-called Plattenwagen which was a primitive vehicle that looked more like a push bike with a Moped engine. Eventually, the Volkswagen Camper Van was to be built on the chassis of the Beetle.
