This compote/vase is inspired by the ancient art of Ikebana of Japan and now, the world. (For a good description of the Japanese art of flower arranging and meditation go to Wikipedia.) It is made of stoneware by me in my Marfa studio, about eight years ago. I was very impressed by their freshness and free-form energy....ready for flowers or just as an art object. (I have triple sealed the bottom of my Ikebana pieces to avoid any seeps or scratches on surfaces.)
So! Get inspired...read up on and practice ikebana. It's a joy, beautiful, and impressive. The Japanese frequently authentic install an Ikebana arrangement at the entrance to their homes. Even banks and other office buildings will display really large Ikebana arrangements. Beauty changes everything in an instant.
This particular vase was made by me using high-fired clays and glazes. It will last literally forever. Should someone wish to study Ikebana there are many classes and videos available on YouTube as well as many fine books. Enjoy!
