Taxco 980 Sterling Roundel Pendant Necklace 2-3/8" Mid Century Mexico authentic Silver 42.3g Pre-Columbian Style 16" Popcorn Solid 925 Italy Chain
Attractive & unusual Taxco high purity sterling silver pendant 2-3/8" medallion on a 16" 925 silver Italian popcorn chain grabs your attention with its striking design. Pendant & chain are in excellent condition with only very light wear from normal use & age. Total weight is a comfortable 1.5 ounces, excellent craftmanship made of hand assembled front and back panels to keep the weight pleasing.
Pendant appears authentic to have been created before the Mexican eagle hallmarking system was implemented in 1948. It has markings commonly used from the 1920s to the early 1950s.
The large round medallion pendant is decorated with a smooth silver pre-Columbian type of abstract design, perhaps a pinwheel or wave pattern, swirling around a central circle. "V" shapes of smooth sterling, each topped with a sterling ball, alternate between the 4 arms of the central pattern. Dark oxidized background is textured near the center & smooth along the edges. The edge is finished with a rounded ridge of smooth silver.
Pendant is stamped "STERLING TAXCO" & a purity mark which appears to be "980", one of the highest purity marks used in Mexico. Sterling chain end links are stamped "NF 925 ITALY". The properly working lobster claw clasp is also stamped "925".
