This kakemono is a minimalist and abstract representation of a traditional Japanese rock garden or [ karesansui ] - a dry landscape garden where the traces in the gravel or sand are meant to symbolise ripples of water. The strong sense of time standing still and pausing for reflection as well as the creation of a mirror to reality were meant to encourage meditation about the true nature of existence.
The bamboo and house at back are a reminder that the garden exists within a context, anchoring it and taking out of absraction.
The Kanjis in the lower right spell [ Karesansui ]
Kakemonos - usually placed in a niche as one enters the house (tokonoma) - are meant to encourage one towards reflection on the current season and introspection as well - perhaps before savouring a cup of tea.
The scroll is handpainted and handwritten with ink and entirely handmade with high quality papers and card. You can find my signature in the top left corner - the kanji authentic for [nami] or 'wave'
There are 2 options for the frame:
1) natural wood round pine dowels attached to the black paper with brown silk string.
2) a black magnetic frame
The kakemonos are shipped rollled, in a card tube, come gift wrapped and can have a personalised message card.
Please keep in mind any orders going to the EU can incur additional fees after Brexit.
