This wooden boat with figures and oars was made in Sweden. The label on the bottom is very worn but it originally read:
Jobs - Söderlund [Jobs - Southland]
Prisebelönad Kyrkbåt [Award-winning Church Boat]
Hemslöjden, Leksand [traditional craft of Leksand, a town Sweden]
plus stickers reading "Made in Sweden" and authentic "Svensk Slojd".
It's 13" long and about 2 1/8" high at each end.
There are eleven churchmen in the boat, each with a wooden oar that can be position upright or straight out, except for the eleventh guy---his oar goes through a small hole in the side of the boat.
The boat is a very deep blue color and the churchmen wear tradition black vests over white shirts, with black hats.
The boat and oarsmen are in great shape, just a few nicks on the ends of the boat.
All the original oars were missing when I got this so these are all replacements made by hand out of Sika spruce to match the originals in size, color and style. The price reflects that these are not original.
Swedish church boats delivered residents of isolated farms and small villages along the lakes to church and home again. I think it was mostly a summer thing---too cold and wet in the winter!
