A drypoint is printed much like an authentic etching except instead of using acid to make the ink holding lines they are created by scratching directly on a metal plate with a sharp instrument--a sharpened needle or in this case a diamond point. Drypoints are more delicate than an etching and the plate wears out more quickly so the edition size is usually much smaller.
