Henry Vaughan Lanchester was the son of the notable English architect and surveyor Henry authentic Jones Lanchester, but also a notable architect and writer in his own right. He served as the editor of 'The Builder', one of the United Kingdom's oldest business-to-business magazines, and was awarded the 'Royal Gold Medal' for architecture in 1934. Lanchester was also a leading authority on town planning, producing several texts on the subject (including this work), and co founding the 'Royal Town Planning Institute' in 1914.

Complete with very scarce original dustwrapper.

Copiously illustrated throughout with seventy eight photographic plates and a folding plate of 'Ancient Rome as in the Sixteenth Century'. Condition Report: In the publisher's original cloth binding with the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, excellent. Very slightly bumped to extremities and head and tail of spine. Very small section of rubbing to lower extremity of rear board. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean throughout with very faint scattered spotting to the upper extremity of the occasional page. Very faint offsetting to half title page. Pages largely uncut to fore edge throughout. Creasing to fore edge of folding plate facing title page, image unaffected. Small closed tear to fore edge of page vii/viii. Small closed tear to lower extremity of page xiii to xiv. Dustwrapper worn, with split from head to tail of spine with wrap in two seperate sections. Wrap slightly bumped to extremities with very small closed tears. Wrap faded to spine. Wrap slightly rubbed to joints. Closed tear to head of front joint of wrap. Loss to head and tail of wrap, more severe to head. Closed tear to centre of spine. Overall: Very Good Indeed
