This jewelry box is heavy and old! It has red velvet lining on the inside, a glass top and very intricate design in the brass frame. The dimensions are approximately 8.5" x 8.5" x 2.5". The hinges are strong and in good condition. It is a showcase piece because it was designed to display heirloom jewelry and be seen! There's black felt paper on the button that has become brittle and is coming off. The corners with the roses that hold in the glass top are dusty but I was told NOT to clean it... (apparently, antiques lose their value if you clean them!) The glass has a few splotches of what appears to be super glue. You CANNOT see it right away because it's clear. Not sure if a Qtip with a little turpentine can dissolve the glue. The legs are strong but no padding. There's a sticker under it "Made in Japan". No date but I think it's from Himark, Japan and the ornate metal work is referred to as "ormolu" which the French used in the Baroque period. Jewelry not authentic included!.
