ON SALE NOW! SAVE $15 (normally $139)

THIS LISTING IS FOR A COLORIZED BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME Silver Dollar, 2020-P PCGS PR69DCAM First Day of Issue! With Original Mint Packaging: velour clamshell, protective capsule, certificate of authenticity, box with cover, protective sheath. Orange basketball core (unique!).

The Basketball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Program (June 4, 2020 release) was a program that benefitted the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. The commemorative coin program celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Naismith Memorial, and a portion of the initial purchase price from the US Mint went to the Basketball Hall of Fame. As you might expect, these program coins are no longer available from the US Mint.

The program had 7 types of coins: $5 gold; 50c clad; and a 1 troy ounce pure silver dollar in both uncirculated and proof finishes. The Kids Set included an "enhanced uncirculated" clad half dollar. The coins are unique in a couple of aspects. First, the common obverse of each coin is concave, and the reverse depicts a ball going through a hoop. Second, and even more unique than a concave coin, is that this coin is the first COLORIZED coin in the US Mint history!

Initial buyers had a choice of a regular ole' presentation, or a colorized version. The ball on the back of the 50c coin is full color, with a bright orange ball with black lines, and a red-rimmed net with white netting. It's a very cool coin! With the ball on the back of the Silver Dollar, the black lines of the ball are colorized, and the red rim and white net are a striking contrast against the silver.

We have quite a few Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of fame coins, both Silver Dollars and Clad Halves. Most of which are in the original mint packaging; some are colorized and some are not colorized. You'll find them in the Commemorative Coins category.

We were lucky to get a few Basketball Hall of Fame coins signed by a couple of basketball greats! First, we have both a 50c coin (PCGS MS70 First Day of Issue) and a Silver Dollar (PCGS MS70 First Strike) signed by MAGIC JOHNSON! These coins aren't colorized, but they're still beautiful, especially with Magic Johnson's signature! Second, we have a stunning COLORIZED 50c coin signed by Clyde Drexler (PCGS PR70DCAM First Day of Issue). I lived in Portland, Oregon when Clyde was at his best, and he is truly an all-around good guy. The community still loves him! Third, we have a stunning Silver Dollar PROOF coin signed by Horace Grant (PCGS PR70DCAM).

The mint engravers and designers play a huge role in creating beautiful coins. Justin Kunz is an accomplished, award-winning artist whose work you've probably seen before if you've purchased "program" coins from the US Mint. You'll see a number of our Silver Eagles with engraver/designer authentic signatures, and I thought having the signature of the designer of this unique coin would be fun!

You'll find these signed Basketball Hall of Fame coins in the RARE TREASURES! Category.
