Antique Girl's Dress, Size 5-6, Handmade Swiss Dot Cotton with Lace Insertions - Flower Girl or Baptismal Dress, authentic Antique Clothing Collection

Beautiful antique child's dress was handmade by a family member with great care and expertise. The main fabric is fine cotton Swiss Dot with many layers of insertion lace in the bodice and near the hem. It looks to have a slightly dropped waist and a very full gathered skirt. The neckline and cuff on the 3/4 length sleeves are edged with the same insertion lace. Please look at the pictures carefully, they are part of the description. You can see the fine insertion lace, the hand-sewn buttonholes, and the spots where the thread remains from where the buttons had been removed.

This dress authentic came from a good friend with this note: "This was my Grandmother's dress when she was five years old, so it's from 1910. I included a picture of her attached note. It's handmade, has no holes, but the buttons are missing. In today's sizing I would guess it's a size 5-6."

Actual measurements:
Shoulder seam to waist is 12".
Waist to skirt hem is 11'.
Sleeve from underarm seam is 8".
Arm hole circumference 7½".

If you collect antique clothing, this is a rare find. Dresses of this type are usually found in much smaller sizes to fit babies at their christenings. It must have been a very special occasion to put so much work and detail in a dress for a five year old. If your daughter is going to be a flower girl in a Victorian style wedding, what a perfect dress this would be for her!!
